Imagine yourself in a safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, giving you wide, open views of the wild landscape. As you drive through the bush, elephants, lions, giraffes, and zebras may come close—perfect moments for unforgettable photos.

When the sun sets, you’ll head to your safari lodge or a comfortable tented camp. There, you’ll enjoy a warm meal, relax under the stars, and get ready for another day of adventure.

Tanzania’s beauty is world-famous. Its wild places have appeared in Hollywood movies like Hatari! and even inspired Disney’s The Lion King. But a safari here is more than just watching animals—it's a deeper journey.

You can visit a Maasai village and learn about their way of life, or explore places like Olduvai Gorge—one of the world’s most important archaeological sites, known as the “Cradle of Mankind.”

Want something different? Go on a walking safari and feel the thrill of being close to nature on foot. Or take to the skies in a hot air balloon and watch the sunrise over the plains—a view you’ll never forget.

At Resilience Expeditions, we offer all this and more. Our safaris take you off the beaten path and deeper into Tanzania’s wild heart—blending wildlife, culture, and adventure into one unforgettable experience.

For a full safari experience—including famous places like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park—plan for 5 to 7 days. This gives you enough time to explore the northern circuit and spot the Big Five and many other animals.

If you have more time, some safaris can last 10 to 20 days or more. These longer journeys go deeper into the wild and often include hidden gems off the usual tourist path.

Short on time? You can still enjoy a quick 1–2 day safari to parks near Arusha, like Tarangire or Lake Manyara. These shorter trips are perfect for a quick glimpse of Tanzania’s amazing wildlife.

Want to see the Serengeti but don’t have much time? Flying straight into the park is a great option—you’ll save time and still enjoy world-class game viewing.

The best time to visit Tanzania for a safari depends on what kind of experience you want.

The dry season—from June to October and January to March—is perfect for wildlife viewing. Animals gather around waterholes, making them easier to spot. These months offer clear skies and sunny days, ideal for photography and game drives. It's also the best time to witness the Great Migration in the Serengeti and the birthing season for zebras and wildebeests. Keep in mind, this is also the busiest time, so popular parks can get crowded.

The rainy season, from April to May and November to December, brings green landscapes, fewer tourists, and lower lodge prices. It’s a great time for birdwatching and enjoying peaceful safaris away from the crowds.

If you're looking for a balance, the shoulder seasons—like late March, early June, late October, and November—offer good weather, fewer travelers, and great game viewing.

Whether you want action-packed wildlife encounters or quiet moments in nature, Tanzania offers unforgettable safari experiences year-round.

The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of nature’s most incredible wildlife events. Every year, over a million wildebeests, along with zebras and gazelles, move across the Serengeti in Tanzania and into Kenya’s Masai Mara, following the rains in search of fresh grass.

The journey begins in the southern Serengeti, near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where thousands of calves are born during the calving season (usually January to March). From there, the herds travel through the Serengeti’s vast plains, heading north toward Kenya—and then return by the end of the year.

One of the most exciting moments is the Mara River crossing. Here, the animals brave strong currents and lurking predators like crocodiles. Watching thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the river together is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Whether you catch the dramatic river crossings or the peaceful calving season, the Great Migration is a must-see on any Tanzania safari adventure.

The Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti is a year-round spectacle, but the best time to visit depends on what you want to see.

  • February to March is the calving season in the southern Serengeti, near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Thousands of wildebeest calves are born during this time, attracting predators and offering thrilling wildlife action.

  • May to July is when the herds move northward, and you can witness the first dramatic river crossings in the Grumeti River.

  • July to August brings the famous Mara River crossings in northern Serengeti—one of the most breathtaking moments of the migration, as animals brave crocodile-infested waters.

  • From August to October, many herds cross into Kenya’s Masai Mara, though some remain in northern Serengeti. This is still a great time for game viewing in both countries.

No matter when you go, the migration offers unforgettable moments. Let Resilience Expeditions help you time it right for the experience you’ll never forget.

The best way to get to Tanzania depends on the safari route you’re taking.

If you’re visiting northern Tanzania—including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, or Mount Kilimanjaro—the most convenient entry point is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). It’s located near Arusha, the starting point for most northern circuit safaris.

For safaris in southern Tanzania, such as Selous (Nyerere National Park) or Ruaha National Park, the best option is Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam.

Both airports receive international flights and offer domestic connections to other parts of the country, making it easy to reach your safari destination.

When going on safari in Tanzania, comfort and practicality are key. Wear neutral-colored clothes like khaki, olive, or gray to blend in with the environment and hide dust. Avoid white (gets dirty quickly), blue (attracts tsetse flies), and camouflage patterns, which are reserved for military use.

For game drives, lightweight long pants and breathable shirts are best. Dresses are great for relaxing at the lodge, but pants are more practical during safaris.

Don’t forget sun protection—a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are a must. Mornings and evenings can get cold, especially in higher areas like Ngorongoro, so bring a warm jacket or fleece.

For footwear, comfortable sandals work well around the camp, but closed shoes or light boots are better for drives and walking safaris.

Pack smart, travel light, and you’ll be ready for every adventure the wild has to offer.

Both Kenya and Tanzania offer amazing safari experiences, but Tanzania often stands out for several reasons.

Tanzania’s national parks—like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire—are known for their abundant wildlife and fewer crowds, giving you a more peaceful and immersive safari experience. One of the biggest highlights is the Great Wildebeest Migration, which stays in Tanzania’s Serengeti for a longer period than it does in Kenya.

Another bonus? Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, is located in Tanzania—offering adventurers the chance to combine a safari with an unforgettable trek.

While Kenya also offers iconic parks like the Masai Mara, many travelers choose Tanzania for its diverse landscapes, rich wildlife, and the chance to explore less-traveled routes.

A typical safari day starts early with a morning game drive before sunrise to spot wildlife at their most active. After a break for brunch, you’ll head out again for an afternoon game drive. The day ends with a sundowner to watch the sunset, followed by a delicious dinner at your lodge or camp. It’s a mix of adventure, relaxation, and stunning wildlife encounters.

During your safari, you’ll stay in a variety of accommodations, including luxury lodges, tented camps, and mobile camps. These are often located in or near the national parks for easy access to wildlife. Lodges offer comfort with private rooms and amenities, while tented camps provide a more immersive experience, combining comfort with nature. Each offers unique experiences and spectacular views.
