The best way to get to Tanzania depends on the safari route you’re taking.
If you’re visiting northern Tanzania—including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, or Mount Kilimanjaro—the most convenient entry point is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). It’s located near Arusha, the starting point for most northern circuit safaris.
For safaris in southern Tanzania, such as Selous (Nyerere National Park) or Ruaha National Park, the best option is Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam.
Both airports receive international flights and offer domestic connections to other parts of the country, making it easy to reach your safari destination.
When going on safari in Tanzania, comfort and practicality are key. Wear neutral-colored clothes like khaki, olive, or gray to blend in with the environment and hide dust. Avoid white (gets dirty quickly), blue (attracts tsetse flies), and camouflage patterns, which are reserved for military use.
For game drives, lightweight long pants and breathable shirts are best. Dresses are great for relaxing at the lodge, but pants are more practical during safaris.
